One of the older structures on campus, Great Hall, is open to students during school hours but locked after certain hours, unless with special permission and OneCard access. This concern of what is locked and unlocked has been voiced by students over the past several months and motivated administrators to address concerns prior to the start of the spring semester.

COLLEGE DAYS STAFF RECEIVES MULTIPLE AWARDS AT WNA COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE

Better Newspaper Contest Award Winner for the College Days

Student journalists from Ripon College on behalf of the College Days earned multiple honors at the 2025 WNA Collegiate Conference on March 6, including two first awards received by sophomore Emma Johnson.

Emma Johnson represents Ripon College Days at the WNA Conference.

Johnson, the current Editor-in-Chief, alongside junior Eduardo Zermeno and freshman Evelyn Koch, was recognized for website design in Division C and Division B. Concurrently, Johnson was recognized for her story Taking A Different Route as First Place in Depth Reporting for Division C. 

Zermeno and previous reporter Ryder Ebbe took 2nd and 3rd respectively in the In-Depth division as well. 

The awards were part of the conference’s annual collegiate competition, which evaluates student work in areas such as reporting, writing, and digital media. The conference brings together high school and college student journalists from across the state to present and be recognized for their work. Entries this year were judged by the Colorado Newspaper Association and awards given across a range of categories.

Emma Johnson, Editor in Chief
Emma Johnson is a current sophomore at Ripon College and a double major in Psychology and Political Science with a minor in French. Johnson loves being active in multiple student organizations on campus, whether it is with the Student Senate or hanging out with her sorority sisters in Alpha Delta Pi. Her interest in journalism started in high school, where she joined the student newspaper The Prowl freshman year and was able to win two state championships with her staff and attend the Free Spirit Conference in 2023. Additionally, Johnson interned with her local newspaper in Wyoming, The Powell Tribune, and is continuously grateful for all the advisers and coworkers who have helped guide her along the way. Hoping to continue this passion, Johnson joined the College Days last year and is hoping to continue the legacy of the multiple Editors-in-Chief and staffs before her. Johnson prefers email for concerns, critiques, and general comments about the College Days/Ripon College.
